Portrait Painting on Canvas, Two-Day Workshop with Keelie Nicholls, Artist, Ages 11–16
Work with experienced artist and teacher Keelie Nicholls to create a portrait using acrylics on canvas. Whether you choose to bring a reference photo or work from your imagination, students are encouraged to explore storytelling through portraiture, because a portrait can be more than just a face! Whether it’s an unusual pose or a symbolic detail, think about the story or meaning behind your artwork that you wish to convey to the viewer.
Working from your reference, students will begin with preliminary sketches, exploring painting techniques such as light, shade and tone and selecting the right tools to create your work of art.
Once you have created your practice sketches and have a better understanding of how to develop your own style, you can approach your canvas with confidence to capture the likeness of your subject.
