Esplanade BBQs
There is a range of barbecue and picnic areas along the Cairns Esplanade for your next visit.
The barbecues are free for casual use and are open from 6am to 9pm daily.
You can also hire a BBQ for your next event; click on the 'Booking enquiry' button below. Hire fees apply.
Please note, due to high demand the Egret, Sand Piper, Curlew and Jabiru barbecues are not available for hire.

Curlew
Located in the Esplanade parklands just north of Muddy's Playground, BBQ Curlew has:
- 2 electric BBQ plates
- Covered cooking area
- 3 tables with benches
- Pavilion shade
- Water and power available

Egret
Located at Muddy's Playground, BBQ Egret has:
- 3 electric BBQ plates
- Covered cooking area
- 3 tables with benches
- Pavilion shade
- Water available
This barbecue is not available for hire.
Jabiru
Located on the eastern side of the Lagoon, BBQ Jabiru has:
- 4 electric BBQ plates
- Covered cooking area
- 2 tables with benches
- Pavilion and tree shade
- Water and power available

Kingfisher
Located in the Esplanade parklands to the south of Muddy's Playground, BBQ Kingfisher has:
- 2 electric BBQ plates
- Covered cooking area

Kookaburra
Located in the Esplanade parklands on the eastern side of the Lagoon, BBQ Kookaburra has:
- 4 electric BBQ plates
- Covered cooking area

Lorikeet
Located in the Esplanade parklands on the western edge of the Lagoon, BBQ Lorikeet has:
- 4 electric BBQ plates

Osprey
Located in the Esplanade parklands near the McKenzie Street intersection and car park, BBQ Osprey has:
- 2 electric BBQ plates

Pelican
Located in the Esplanade parklands just north of the intersection with Aplin Street, BBQ Pelican has:
- 2 electric BBQ plates
- Covered cooking area

Sand Piper
Located at the Fun Ship Playground, Sand Piper BBQ has:
- 4 electric BBQ plates
- Covered cooking area

Sea Eagle
Located in the Esplanade parklands just south of the Skate Plaza, BBQ Sea Eagle has:

Seagull
Located in the Esplanade parklands on the western side of the Lagoon, close to the ocean's edge, BBQ Seagull has:
- 4 electric BBQ plates

Sister Cities
Located in the Esplanade parklands on the very eastern side of the Lagoon, BBQ Sister Cities is named in recognition of the relationships between Cairns and her Sister Cities. It has:
