Holding an event or celebration

The Esplanade is lined with large open parklands, palm-fringed lawns and piers all offering amazing views over the water.

The parklands are available to residents year round.

If you would like to hold an event, wedding or host a large-scale celebration you may need to book the space and pay relevant fees.

Before making a booking enquiry, please read the Cairns Esplanade Use Policy ( PDF, 0.33 MB ) which sets out permitted activities and our fees and charges ( PDF, 0.02 MB ).

Peaceful assemblies can be held on the Esplanade Parklands but organisers must comply with a number of guidelines including statutory rules, provisions and regulations of the Commonwealth of Australia or State of Queensland in force. Organisers must also ensure any relevant notices are provided to Council.

Fogarty Park and Sound Shell

Fogarty Park and Sound Shell


Fogarty Park is a large, lush parkland lined with trees situated at the southern end of the Esplanade. Featuring a sound shell, the parkland is suitable for large-scale community events. There is parking within walking distance and a toilet facility at the eastern edge of the park.

Western Event Lawn

Western Event Lawn


Next to the Lagoon, the Western Event Lawn is a wide open lawn, perfect for community events. It's a short walk to public toilets, showers and public parking.

Eastern Event Lawn

Eastern Event Lawn


Located on the eastern side of the Lagoon, with views over the water and Esplanade foreshore, the Eastern Event Laws is an in-demand location for functions and community events. There is plenty of parking and public toilets within walking distance.

Esplanade Dining Precinct

Esplanade Dining Precinct


Between Shields and Aplin streets, the Esplanade Dining Precinct includes the roadway and adjacent parklands, and is suitable for large-scale events.

Shields Street Dining Precinct


Between the Esplanade and Lake Street, the Shields Street Dining Precinct is mostly pedestrian friendly, featuring open lawn, seating and a small performance space.

Fun Ship Parkland

Fun Ship Parkland


Next to the popular Fun Ship Playground at the northern end of the Esplanade, this event space is perfect for community fun runs and events. There is parking and public toilets in walking distance.

Northern Event Lawn

Northern Event Lawn


Just north of the beach volleyball courts, the Northern Event Lawn is an open parkland perfect for community and sporting events. There is plenty of parking and public toilets are in walking distance.

Muddy's Event Lawn

Muddy's Event Lawn


Next to Muddy's Playground, the Muddy's Event Lawn is a lush parkland with views over the water. It is next to the fully covered Curlew barbecue and close to parking and toilet facilities.

McKenzie Street Parkland

McKenzie Street Parkland


Located at the northern end of the Cairns Esplanade, where McKenzie Street and The Esplanade meet, McKenzie Street Parkland offers views of palm-fringed waterfront including a high water pier. There are public toilets and parking close by.

Sister Cities Parkland

Sister Cities Parkland


The Sister Cities Parkland, at the southern end of the Esplanade, features a barbecue and high water pier, with stunning views across the foreshore. Close to the Lagoon, there is plenty of parking and a short walk to public toilets and showers.

Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove


Coconut Grove, at the far northern end of Esplanade, is a large open parkland with toilet facilities and car parking close by. It is ideal for a fun run or community event.

High Water Piers

High Water Piers


High Water Piers are located on the water near McKenzie Street, Charles Street,  the Western Event Lawn and the Eastern Event Lawn. These spaces are ideal for intimate events and photography. While not suitable for large events, the High Water Piers can be booked individually or in conjunction with the surrounding parklands.
