Introducing Updates to the City’s Regulated Parking Areas from 1 July.
What’s changed?
- The free city centre parking allowance has been reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours
- Hourly parking rates have been updated for both on-street parking and Council-operated off-street car parks
- Bunda Street Car Park will be closing 30 June.
For full details, including updated charges, please download the FAQ PDF and review the updated parking maps or go to the webpage linked below:
Please note: The parking fees, time limits and maps displayed on these webpages reflect the new regulated parking arrangements commencing 1 July 2026.
Existing fees and time limits will continue to apply until 30 June 2026.
Following a successful trial in Cairns North and Cairns CBD, Council has decided to continue the roll-out of Pay By Plate meters to all paid parking areas, starting in May 2026.
The changes are necessary for compliance and will replace existing machines as parts are no longer able to be replaced.
This is a ticketless parking option so no need to return to your vehicle to place a parking ticket on your dashboard.
'Pay by plate' is quick and simple:
- Park
- Enter your vehicle's registration number plate details at the parking machine
- Pay for your parking period with coins or credit card
- Go about your day, no tickets are required.
