Cairns Regional Council is responsible for:
- 1034km of sealed urban roads
- 644km of rural roads
- around 500km of footpaths and cycle paths
- 113 footbridges
- 200 bus shelters
- 200 parks and playgrounds.
Council invests over $9 million each year on road works and road maintenance to build new roads, fix and patch pot holes and cracks, reseal and re-surface roads, repair and install kerb and channel, and sweep our streets.
Council looks after most local and suburban roads, except for highways which are controlled by Queensland Government. More
Council aims to balance traffic efficiency with road safety. Our traffic engineers review road safety issues, assess speed limits, process temporary road closures and upgrade bus stops and pedestrian crossings. More
Road closure permits
You need to get prior approval from Council to close a road, undertake works on a road or road reserve, or to transport an abnormal load on a road. More
Council has a scheduled maintenance program to enhance the city's image and community safety. More
