Why is water conservation important?

Our region receives some of the highest rainfall in Australia - but saving water is important for many reasons, including:

  • We get most of our rainfall in the wet season and our water storage facilities can run low towards the end of the dry season
  • Growing population and limited water storage capacity are putting our water supply under increasing pressure
  • Environmental flows must be maintained in local creeks and waterways to keep these ecosystems healthy
  • Water treatment and pumping uses a lot of energy.  Saving water helps to save electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • The more water you use, the larger your water bill

Get Water Smart

While there’s been plenty of rain recently, the rain doesn't always fall where we need it to. So, it’s important to save water, no matter the season. By making simple changes in our daily lives such as fixing leaks, taking shorter showers and using sprinkler timers we can help preserve our tropical paradise.

Let’s all be smarter with our water!
