Cadets & graduates
A cadet is an individual who is undertaking an undergraduate or postgraduate tertiary degree from a recognized university.
A graduate has completed their undergraduate or postgraduate studies from a recognised university.
A cadet is employed on a fixed term full-time basis whilst studying part time.
Graduates are employed on a full-time temporary contract in the relevant department over a two-year program.
Eligibility
All cadets and graduates must be:
- 15 years and over
- an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or hold a permanent residency visa or temporary residency visa
- undertaking (cadets) or have completed (graduate) undergraduate or postgraduate studies at a recognised university
Complete a drug and alcohol medical assessment

Council will recruit for Cadets and Graduate positions when business and operational needs arise. All positions will be advertised on Council’s eRecruitment page.
The selection process may involve:
- Written application
- Interviews
- Reference checks
- Pre-employment medical (including drug and alcohol testing)
