Cairns Botanic Gardens improvements
New amenities block construction and café removal underway
We’re building a new amenities block to make your visits to Cairns Botanic Gardens more comfortable. This is part of a multi-stage upgrade to renew and enhance this much-loved community space.
These improvements will enhance accessibility, improve visitor facilities and celebrate the gardens’ world-class tropical plant collections, ensuring this special place continues to be enjoyed by the community and visitors for years to come.
The ageing former café building and toilet block are being removed to make way for a new, modern amenities block. The new facilities will provide improved accessibility, safer connections and a more comfortable experience for garden visitors.
Works underway: July – November 2026
During construction, some areas around the work site will be temporarily unavailable to garden visitors. Signage will be in place to guide visitors around affected areas.
Toilet facilities remain available at the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre, located adjacent to the gardens.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while these improvements are underway.
