How Can I Help?
It’s natural for the community to want to offer assistance to those affected by disasters. Start by checking in with your neighbours, family, and friends, offering help wherever you can.
If you would like to help by donating to those in need, the most effective way is through cash donations. This allows individuals choice and flexibility in what they need most for their recovery.
Cash donations can help stimulate the local economy, leading to a quicker recovery for the community. The following organisations accept cash donations which provide direct assistance to Cairns communities in need during disaster recovery:
GIVIT is a national not-for-profit organisation connecting donors and community organisations to make sure people and communities get exactly what they need, when they need it. In partnership with government, non-profit GIVIT manages offers of donated goods, services, volunteering and money during recovery.
From emergency response to long-term recovery, the 'Salvos' stand with communities through the stages of disaster, providing financial, material, emotional and spiritual support to help rebuild lives and livelihoods.
