Love Food Hate Waste
Did you know that Australians on average dispose of more than 312kg of food waste per person per year? That's one in five bags of groceries going to waste (or $2,000-$2,500 per household) per year.
Cairns Regional Council's Love Food Hate Waste program aims to help reduce the volume of food waste going to landfill by helping educate Cairns residents with:
- Using leftovers for delicious recipes - don't let great taste go to waste
- Planning meals - save your time and money
- Composting your food waste - reduce food waste
The Love Food Hate Waste program is being run all over Australia (and the world), delivering significant reductions in food sent to landfill (by 18% in the UK). Let's get on board and show some love for our food and the environment.
Thanks to the Queensland and Australian governments recently partnering with Thankful for Farmers a new free app has been developed to help all Australians reduce food waste called 'Saveful'.
What can the Saveful App be used for?
Saving food (and money) by diverting it from the waste bin and making your tastebuds (and wallet) sing. Search for savings or use up what you’ve got. Remix food leftovers into brand-new creations. Get storage tips to help make your food last longer.
Available (free) on IOS & Android devices visit the Saveful App webpage for more details on how to use this app to reduce food waste today.
