Footpath dining is the use of an adjoining Council footpath as an area for the patrons of an adjoining food business to dine within.

A footpath dining permit must be obtained to use an area of adjoining Council footpath for footpath dining. The footpath dining permit allows you to set up temporary footpath dining furniture such as seating, tables, shade structures, landscape planter boxes and barriers.

This permit is issued under Council’s local laws. Council also considers applications for footpath dining in accordance with the Best Practise Use of Footpaths Policy ( PDF, 4.24 MB ) which guides the use of footpaths for footpath dining purposes.

Read below for information on the application process and footpath dining permit requirements.
