The Sister Cities program aims to develop meaningful and long-term links with cities and communities in other countries, to achieve a greater level of international understanding and goodwill between peoples.

Cairns has seven sister cities: Lae (Papua New Guinea), Riga (Latvia), Scottsdale (USA), Sidney (Canada), Zhanjiang (China), Minami and Oyama (Japan).

Through these agreements, we have supported one another with economic, educational, cultural, and sport exchange. And, of course, we also exchange gifts.

Ordinarily displayed at the City Library, this temporary exhibition puts in context the other two sister city related exhibitions showing concurrently at the Court House Gallery.
