Heavy rains have kept Council’s Parks and Gardens team busy, trying to stay on top of fast-growing turf and gardens.Pioneer Cemetery Grounds

The Pioneer Cemetery has recently received some much-needed care, after Council crews had to put maintenance works on hold due to a roost of Spectacled Flying Foxes using the area to nurture their young over the past few months.

This protected species is official listed as endangered in Australia and are essential pollinators for the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

Our team took the opportunity to step in and complete some gardening and maintenance once the bats vacated the Cemetery.

The Pioneer Cemetery looks great following significant work from the Cairns Regional Council Hit and Gardens team.
