The Invisible Line invites audiences to discover the profound yet often unseen connections that continue to influence and enrich the relationship between Australia and Papua New Guinea - connections that remain as vital today as they were generations ago. There are no lines, only connections.
Commemorating 50 years of Papua New Guinea’s Independence, The Invisible Line examines facets of cultural continuity, exchange and shared experiences between the islands of Zenadth Kes, Papua New Guinea and the contemporary diasporic experience of Papua New Guineans living in Australia.
Central to the exhibition are new artworks born from an artist exchange program conducted in Port Moresby earlier this year. These pieces embody the living, breathing nature of Austronesian-Melanesian relationships, offering fresh insights into how artists from both cultures interpret and respond to their shared experiences.
At its heart, The Invisible Line shows how knowledge, wisdom, and creative expression flow between cultures, generating new perspectives and deepening mutual respect. The exhibition demonstrates that true collaboration emerges not from formal agreements alone, but from the genuine connections forged between people and communities over time. Everyone is connected and certainly the connection between these eight artists was immediate and deep. There is no accident to this connection; it resonates strongly with all.
