Division 1: Brett Moller

Councillor Brett Moller

Councillor Brett Moller was elected the Division 1 Councillor at the 2016 local government elections. He was re-elected in 2020 and 2024.

Cr Brett is a fourth generation resident of Division 1 from a pioneering sugar farming family on his father’s side, and a third generation grandson of a Greek emigrant and small business owner on his mother’s side.

He is passionate about rural and regional towns and cities rejuvenation and revitalisation, and improving the liveability of Cairns wherever residents choose to live, work and play.

He is a respected lawyer previously operating his law offices in the southern corridor communities of Edmonton, Gordonvale and Babinda.

Cr Brett was previously Chair of Ports North, State President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland and a Director on the Australian Chamber of Commerce Board.

He is currently Deputy Chair of Regional Development Australia Tropical North and President for the Local Authority Waste Management Action Committee (LAWMAC).

Cr Brett has represented and currently represents Council:

Chair of Works and Governance & Economics Committees and Deputy Chair Local Disaster Recovery Group.
Member of Audit Committee, Cairns Art Gallery Board, Cairns Art Gallery Finance Committee, Cairns River Improvement Trust, LGAQ Waste Management and Resource Recovery Advisory Group and FNQ Regional Roads and Transport Group.

In 2020, he was awarded a Bravery Medal for his role in rescuing a young Victorian woman from the flooded Behana Creek near his home at Aloomba, back in 2018.
