Creating a vibrant recreational hub at Kenrick Street Park 

Cairns Regional Council is transforming Kenrick Street Park, Gordonvale, into a fun, family-oriented parkland for the community of Gordonvale and the wider area.

Council has consulted with the community and key stakeholders to inform the final Kenrick Street Park Masterplan which will deliver upgrades to the park in stages over the coming years.

Stage 1 of the Kenrick Street Park Masterplan is jointly funded by Council and the Queensland Government and will include:

• Civil works
  • Underground services – electrical/data, water, sewer, irrigation on eastern side of the ‘central hub’
  • Convert open grassed lined drain to underground drain
• Community facilities
  • Basketball court
  • Dog Off Leash Area
  • Public Toilets
  • Some shelters, tables & seating
  • Selected playground equipment
  • Selected pump track components
  • Central path – Fisher Road to Dempsey Street
  • Landscaping from carpark to central hub

STAGE 1 CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM (Subject to change)

Construction works for Stage 1 commence late June and are expected to be completed in December 2024.

• Late June 2023:
  • Site compound setup
  • Most of park closed to public
  • Civil works commence
• July 2023:
  • Essential vegetation clearing
• Late 2023: Community facilities construction commences
• Early 2024: Planting & landscaping commences
• 31 December 2024: Project completion

Kenrick Street Park Masterplan

The Kenrick Street Park Masterplan also outlines a variety of proposed additions which are expected to be constructed in stages in future years.

These may include:

• Community centre
• Events space
• Additional landscaping
• Passive recreational areas
• Additional children’s playground
• Additional BMX/pump track components
• Skate bowl
• Multi sports court
• Exercise loop
• Off street parking
