Division 8: Rhonda Coghlan
Councillor Rhonda Coghlan
Councillor Rhonda Coghlan was elected the Division 8 Councillor at the 2020 local government elections. She was re-elected in 2024.
Cr Coghlan was born in Melbourne and moved to Sydney as a young adult, where she married and began raising her two children.
In the early 1990s, while her children were still quite young, she relocated her family to North Queensland — a decision that proved to be the right one. Embracing the tropical lifestyle and strong sense of community, she has never looked back.
With almost 30 years of experience in the finance sector, Cr Coghlan has held a variety of leadership and client-focused roles, including Financial Planner, Branch Manager, Business Banker, and Regional Relationship Manager within the superannuation industry.
Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys spending time with family, cycling, walking her dogs, and supporting local sport from the sidelines of the many sporting events held throughout the beautiful Cairns city.
Honesty and integrity have been the cornerstones of both her professional career and personal life.
For more than 35 years, Cr Coghlan has actively volunteered and served on numerous boards and committees, contributing her time and expertise to community organisations across the region.
She is the Chair of the North Queensland Sports Foundation and Local Disaster Management Group Recovery Committee.
