Councillor  Rob Pyne

Councillor Robert John Pyne was elected the Division 5 Councillor at the 2024 local government elections. He was previously a Councillor with Cairns Regional Council 2008 – 2015 and 2020 – 2024, and the Member for Cairns in the Queensland Parliament 2015 – 2017.

Cr Pyne was raised in Cairns and is passionate about the social wellbeing of his community. He sees Cairns inner-city suburbs as playing an important role in providing medium density housing in a sustainable manner, with additional cycle and pedestrian infrastructure and improved public transport. He sees a shady green canopy throughout the division as vital to address emerging urban heat issues.

Division 5 focuses on the inner suburbs including Cairns city, Cairns North, Portsmith, Westcourt, Parramatta Park, Aeroglen, Bungalow and part of Manunda. It also includes Green Island.
