About Cr Matthew Tickner
Matthew Tickner was elected as Councillor for Division 2 in the 2024 Local Government Elections.
Matthew is the product of an army family, moving up and down the east coast of Australia as a child before settling in Cairns during his high school years in 2005. His family history of public service has continued to resonate throughout his life and provided him a deep appreciation for serving his community leading him into Local Government representation.
Matthew’s background is in the civil engineering industry where he ran a consultancy business specialising in residential development, infrastructure design, project management and complex drainage modelling. He was the Vice-President of the Cairns Chamber of Commerce and has served on numerous boards including Tradelinked Cairns-PNG-Pacific, UDIA Infrastructure Advisory Committee and the Cairns Young Chamber of Commerce.
Matthew is now representing Council and the community on a number of committees including:
- Cairns Water Security Steering Committee
- Cairns River Improvement Trust
- FNQROC Board
- FNQROC Regional Roads and Transport Group
Division 2 focuses on Edmonton and Bentley Park, and includes part of Mount Sheridan. It is bounded by Foster Road in the north and Collinson Creek in the south. The area extends east to Bruce Highway and a multitude of residential subdivisions lie to the west, overshadowed by the Isley foothills.
