Cairns Regional Council will invest $5 million in the replacement of aging water mains in 10 suburbs as part of its 2025/26 Water Main Refurbishment Program.
The program targets water mains that have deteriorated or recorded repeated service disruptions.
Mains identified for renewal have typically experienced more than three breaks within a two-year period, impacting water reliability for residents and businesses.
The program plays a critical role in maintaining the city’s essential infrastructure.
Water mains scheduled for replacement in the 2025/26 financial year include:
- Woopen Creek Rd (Stage 1), Bartle Frere
- Banning Ave, Brinsmead
- Sydney St, Bayview Heights
- Pioneer St, Manoora
- Shale St and Basalt St, Brinsmead
- Zamia St, Holloways Beach
- Spence St (Aumuller St to Buchan St), Bungalow
- Mulgrave Rd, Earlville
- Kenny St, Portsmith
- Derby St, Johnson St, Daisy St and Morgan St, Yorkeys Knob
