The cost burden to Cairns residents will be reduced, following the confirmation of additional funding for Cairns Water Security Project in the Federal Budget. This takes total federal funding to $195 million supporting long-term water infrastructure needs to serve the community now and in the future.
Funding had previously been pledged by the Federal Government, and now confirmation in the Budget provides additional certainty to our community.
Affordable housing was also prioritised, which is a recognised a challenge for many in our community. Council will continue to advocate for more investment in the required infrastructure that will unlock up to 18,500 new dwellings for 42,500 people in the Mount Peter area. We recognise that federal and state investment will be crucial if our growth and development is to be delivered in a financially responsible and sustainable way for the benefit of our residents.
