A $1.64 million project, supported by a $395,362 Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant, will deliver formalised parking and improved pedestrian safety to meet growing visitor demand at Ellis Beach.

Cairns Regional Council will progress the Ellis Beach Northern Carpark Upgrade following endorsement of the Project Launch Approval at today’s Ordinary Meeting.

The project includes 70 new parking bays, comprising disability parking and long-vehicle spaces, along with a dedicated turnaround area for large buses.

Council will also deliver complimentary works, including upgraded beach access paths, dune protection fencing, wayfinding signage and a new 18-metre pedestrian bridge over Spring Creek, providing a safe connection between the northern and central carparks.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026, with measures in place to minimise public disruption.

The upgrade supports community safety, accessibility and environmental protection while contributing to local employment and aligning with the broader Ellis Beach Landscape and Foreshore Improvement Plan.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government under Category C & D of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
