The BBQ shelter fronting the playground at Johnson Park in Gordonvale will be officially named the Alice Frazer Shelter, in recognition of a much-loved community member who dedicated more than 50 years to local service.
The naming follows a community-led request to honour the late Alice Frazer, whose tireless volunteer work touched the lives of many.
Known for her generosity and commitment for her community, Mrs Frazer was involved with numerous organisations including the Lions Club, Red Cross, Hospital Foundation, and Scope.
She delivered Meals on Wheels, cleaned the local Anglican church, supported local schools, and both played and volunteered for a range of sporting clubs.
Her contributions were acknowledged with life memberships to the Southern Suburbs Rugby League Club, the Gordonvale Touch Association, and the Mulgrave Cricket Club.
Mrs Frazer lived opposite Johnson Park and was known to watch over the area from her front patio, making the shelter naming a particularly meaningful tribute supported by the Gordonvale community.
Cairns Regional Council supports this recognition, ensuring Alice Frazer’s legacy of service and connection to place is remembered by her community for generations to come.
