Freshwater Creek safe for swimming

Cairns Regional Council advises that Freshwater Creek downstream of Goomboora Park, including Glenoma Park, is confirmed safe for swimming.
A sewage spill at Slate Cl, Brinsmead triggered a precautionary notice on Friday to avoid entering the Creek until further notice.
The Council’s wastewater treatment team have since evaluated the impacted sites, reviewed the details of the event and determined that freshwater flow has sufficiently cleared any harmful bacteria over the past three days.
The spill was contained at 2pm on Friday 4 July 2025 with no further issues.
Council thanks all impacted residents for following advice during this unplanned event.
