An exciting array of family-friendly EV and hybrid cars will be on display at the Ecofiesta this Sunday.

Celebrating innovation in green technology, environmental conservation, and community-led change, Queensland’s premier sustainable living festival will celebrate its tenth year at Munro Martin Parklands from 10am to 6pm.

As part of the festival, Florence Street, between Munro Martin Parklands and the Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) will be closed to traffic and converted into an Electric Avenue to appeal to the growing interest in the electric vehicle market.

Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said Electric Avenue will make it easy for festival goers to explore and compare EVs.

“As an EV user myself, I am aware of the benefits these vehicles offer,” Cr Eden said.

“Electric Avenue will give people the chance to check out a selection of EVs, learn about the transition to electric vehicles, and get a better understanding of solar and battery systems.

“EVs have come a long way in recent years and a transition to electric vehicles is an important option for sustainable living – especially when optimised by charging with a home solar system.”

The Ecofiesta is inviting back one of its most popular workshop presenters, Victor Steffensen, a champion for the revival of traditional knowledge and traditional burning, who will be joined by musician Natalia Mann from 1pm.

Garden guru Costa Georgiadis, host of ABC’s Gardening Australia, is also returning to the event to spread his colourful brand of sustainability sunshine.

The popular environmental educator who has a passion for plants and people will present a workshop on practical home composting at 11am in the workshop area.

“Costa’s energy and passion for all things nature are infectious, and we’re thrilled to have him join us again for Ecofiesta,” said the Mayor.

“He’ll be meeting and greeting the crowds throughout the day so be sure to say ‘hi’ to my mate, the king of compost, and Australia’s favourite garden guru!”

“Come down and enjoy a full program of music, headlined by the brass-heavy Bullhorn and fun, hands-on activities for the whole family.

“Ecofiesta is a chance for us to learn and be inspired to make simple changes, from starting a compost bin to trying beeswax wraps, planting herbs on the balcony or investing in solar.

Florence Street, between Sheridan and Grafton streets, will be closed from 6am to 6pm to accommodate the Ecofiesta EV display and food vans.
