Pet owners urged to update their dog details
Published: 16th May 2025. (Note: information was correct at date of publication but may have since been changed or superseded.)
Council is calling on dog owners throughout the region to update their pet details before dog registration renewal notices are sent out at the end of June.
It’s important for Council to know if:
- You have changed your name or contact details
- You have moved out of the Cairns Regional Council area and no longer have to pay Council dog registration fees
- Your pet has moved within the Cairns Regional Council area
- Your pet has passed away
- Your pet has been desexed – cheaper dog registration
- Your pet has completed Level 3 Obedience training – cheaper dog registration
- You are now eligible for a pensioner discount – cheaper dog registration
- You are now an aged pensioner – registration may be free.
Getting in contact with Council now ensures you will receive the correct registration renewal notice and the correct fee.
Dog owners can update their details online, by emailing regadmin@cairns.qld.gov.au or in person at a Customer Service Centre. You will need to provide evidence of desexing, pensioner status and obedience qualification to be eligible for the reduced registration fee.
Residents can also sign-up to receive their dog registration by email.
