Clear out the garden and help a local cause

Residents are encouraged to make the most of Council's upcoming free green waste disposal period while supporting a charity that helps local families facing cancer.

From Saturday 15 August to Sunday 23 August, green waste can be disposed of free of charge at the following transfer stations:

  • Portsmith Transfer Station, 7 days 8.30am to 5.15pm
  • Smithfield Transfer Station, 7 days 8:30am to 5.15pm
  • Gordonvale Transfer Station, 7 days 8.30am to 5.15pm
  • Babinda Transfer Station, 7 days 8:30am to 5:15pm

The initiative provides the perfect opportunity to tackle overgrown gardens, prune trees, lend a hand to friends, family and neighbours, and prepare your property for the upcoming wet season.

Those dropping off green waste are also invited to make a gold coin donation to COUCH Cancer Hub NQ, a local organisation that has supported people affected by cancer across Far North Queensland since 2006.

Funds raised help COUCH deliver specialised nursing services, practical support and tailored programs that make a real difference to individuals and families navigating a cancer diagnosis.

A small donation alongside your green waste drop-off ensures local cancer support services remain available to those who need them most.

Note: this offer is for domestic cars, utilities and/or trailers and light trucks (vehicle weight to GVM 4.5 tonnes). Normal rates apply for disposal of any other waste during this period, including green waste from garden maintenance contractors on behalf of residents.
