Guided tours - weekdays (to resume on Monday 23 February 2026)
The Friends of the Botanic Gardens conduct guided tours of Flecker Gardens starting from 10am Monday to Friday, most weeks of the year.
Tours generally take 60-90 minutes and showcase key areas of the Gardens including the Conservatory and Aboriginal Plant Use section. These tours are designed for casual visitors to the Gardens.
To join a tour, simply meet up with the guide outside Friends House in the Flecker Garden (not the Visitor Centre). No bookings required.
Bird watching walking tour - Tuesdays
Available every Tuesday commencing at 7.30am. Meet at Friends House in the Flecker Garden (not the Visitor Centre). The walk takes approximately two hours. We recommend you bring binoculars and wear sensible walking shoes.
Gardens and Tanks precinct heritage tour - Thursdays (to resume on Thursday 5 March 2026)
Heritage tours of the Tanks Art Centre and Botanic Gardens precinct are held on Thursday mornings from 10am. Meet at the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre.
Bookings can be taken for small or larger groups on another weekday – contact the Visitor Centre.
Private tours for groups
Private guided walks for tour groups may be arranged through the Friends of the Botanic Gardens.
These walks are designed in consultation with tour leaders to best meet each group's requirements - including start time, duration, specific interests and any special needs. Sufficient guides are provided to maintain a ratio of one guide to six or seven visitors.
Bookings are essential and fees may apply. Contact the Friends of Botanic Gardens by phone 4032 3900 or email info@botanicfriendscairns.org.au
