Taking your dog to the Esplanade
The Esplanade is a popular place for a stroll with your pooch. There are a few things to keep in mind to ensure your outing with your dog is safe for you, your pet and the community.
Keep your pet on a lead
Your dog must be a lead at all times, unless in the dedicated off-leash area. Having your pet on a lead ensures you can keep them under control so they don't bother other users of the Esplanade or get involved in a dog attack.
Dog off-leash park
If you want to let your furry friend really stretch their legs, there is a dedicated off-leash area in Coconut Grove at the northern end of the Esplanade. Pet owners need to maintain control of their pet at all times. So if your pet won't come on command, they'll need to be on a lead.
No-go areas
Pets are not allowed within 2m of any of our playgrounds or public barbecues. They are also banned from the Lagoon, and the surrounding parklands. Please obey the signs.
Scoop the poop
Please pick up after your pet! The Esplanade is used by a lot of people, including small children, who shouldn't have to dodge your pet's poop.
Be kind to your pet
It's quite common for pets to be scared or spooked if they aren't used to being around a lot of people, bikes, scooters and loud noises. If you aren't sure how your pet will react, consider walking them in your neighbourhood or in another area that is quieter.
