The Understory Film Festival team is thrilled to take this year’s touring program on the road, showcasing the incredible 2025 Understory Finalist Shortlist – our very best short films made right here in Far North Queensland.

From an outstanding pool of submissions, 24 finalists have been selected by a panel of industry professionals, highlighting the exceptional creativity thriving in our region.

This year’s lineup offers a vibrant mix: a touch of horror, feel-good music videos, clever animation, insightful documentaries, heartfelt drama, and plenty of laughs. Each film brings a distinctive voice and vision, brought to life by passionate FNQ storytellers.

For more than 12 years, the Understory Film Festival has played a vital role in shaping a vibrant screen culture in Far North Queensland – celebrating our unique landscapes, sharing our stories and creating pathways for local filmmakers. With a growing audience and ever-rising film quality, we’re excited to share this year’s program with you.

We hope the touring program inspires emerging filmmakers across the region to tell their own stories, know that Understory offers a strong and supportive platform for future work.
