The Body Language of Plants
Claudine Marzik & Tijn Meulendijks
Exhibition: 31 Oct 2025 - 28 Jan 2026
Launch: 5.30pm, Fri 31 Oct
Workshops: 16 & 23 Nov
European-born artists Claudine Marzik (Switzerland) and Tijn Meulendijks (Netherlands) have lived in Cairns for over three decades. The Body Language of Plants is their fifth collaborative exhibition, continuing their exploration of the natural world through painting and ephemeral, site-responsive installation. Their work reflects close observation and a deep sensitivity to nature’s underlying structures and organic rhythms.
Tijn Meulendijks creates sculptural installations from carefully sourced organic materials. His contemplative process encourages a slower, more attentive engagement with nature’s interdependence. Claudine Marzik presents new abstract paintings alongside earlier works on paper, created using recycled materials, including mounting paper from the Australian Tropical Herbarium where she volunteers. Her work responds to the energy and cycles of vegetation with a strong material focus.
Together, Marzik and Meulendijks shape a quiet dialogue between rhythm, growth, and stillness – an aesthetic rooted in mutual respect for nature’s subtle intelligence and expressive, embodied language.
This exhibition was officially launched by Professor Darren Crayn, Director Australian Tropical Herbarium
