Word on the Street - Photojournalism by the Youth of Our City

Youth Culture & Abandoned Heritage by Laura Baranyi 2024
Exhibition: Fri 17 Jan - Sun 2 Mar 2025
Launch: 6pm, Fri 17 Jan

You might not read about it in the papers, but there are stories, there are issues, and there are events that happen in our community that young people know something about.

Word on the Street tells some of those stories through photographs taken in recent months by young photo-enthusiasts. They set their own journalistic assignments under guidance by photojournalist, Brian Cassey and with Cairns Local News cadet journalist, Isaac Colman. Their mission is to seek out and document the social and cultural happenings that are important to the youth of our region.

Word on the Street is a perfect companion exhibition to Brian Cassey’s A Photographer’s Life Part Three and Head On Foundation’s Paper Tigers, offering a local and youthful counterpoint to the work of seasoned professionals – and a glimpse into the future of media coverage through the lens of the next generation.

January Exhibition Launch Events

Come along to our four exhibitions launching on on Friday 17 January at 6pm.
