Cairns Community & Multicultural Centre

Construction of the Cairns Community and Multicultural Centre at White Rock is now underway, marking the culmination of years of planning, consultation and community advocacy.

The Cairns Community and Multicultural Centre will include:

• commercial kitchen;
• large multipurpose space (50 to 100 people);
• small meeting rooms;
• foyer for art and cultural displays;
• medium multipurpose space (5 to 20 people)
• outdoor gathering space.

Project timeline:

• September 2026: Construction commencement
• December 2026: State Government sports ground completion (TBC)
• February 2028:  Expected project completion

The Cairns Community & Multicultural Centre is a long-held community vision that will bring together the many cultures, tradition and stories that shape our region.

The new centre will provide a dedicated space for people to connect, celebrate cultural diversity, share experiences and strengthen community relationships.

Council secured $4 million in Australian Government funding through the Growing Regions Program, to deliver the purpose-built facility, creating a permanent home for cultural, social and community activities.

The Centre will provide a welcoming and accessible venue featuring a large and medium sized multipurpose hall, meeting spaces, commercial kitchen, foyer space for art and cultural displays and an outdoor gathering area.

Construction completion is expected to be in late 2027.

A Queensland Government project to construct a new sports field on adjacent land is expected to be underway during the first few months of the multicultural centre’s construction.
