The Gordonvale Sport and Recreation Masterplan responds to the community’s need for appropriate sporting facilities, projected population growth, feedback from existing and future user groups and sets out the development priorities for a large section of community purpose land located within the southern growth corridor.

The precinct covers approximately 60 hectares, and includes Alley Park, the adjacent Golf and Turf Clubs, and undeveloped land on the western side stretching parallel with the highway.

The long-term strategic vision for the precinct has been informed by extensive public and stakeholder engagement undertaken between 2022 and 2024.  On 26 February 2025, Council endorsed the final version of the Gordonvale Sport and Recreation Precinct Masterplan ( PDF, 5.15 MB ) . It features the key improvements outlined below.

The Western Precinct

  • Three new rectangular fields and associated amenities to accommodate Soccer.
  • Six new tennis courts and associated amenities. The tennis courts at Norman Park will be demolished to create a large event space in the centre of town.
  • Combined clubhouse with tennis and soccer.
  • Proposed Park Run route and extensive wildlife corridor.
  • Public amenities.
  • Space for emergent sports.

The Eastern Precinct (Alley Park and Aquatic Centre)

  • Additional fourth rectangular field at Alley Park to accommodate rugby league and touch.
  • Lighting upgrade of rectangular fields.
  • Grandstand upgrade.
  • Aquatic facility future expansion is shown in the concept for illustration purposes and will be dependent on future strategies.
  • Golf and Turf Club lease their area and are responsible for improvements within their leased boundary with Council approval.

Top priorities

The top priorities for delivery (which are subject to Council’s budget and external funding opportunities) are:

  • Design for key elements – including drainage study and irrigation
  • Priority 1 – eastern precinct – lighting design and upgrade
  • Priority 2 – eastern precinct – 4th rectangular field and drainage improvements
  • Priority 3 – eastern precinct – carparking
  • Priority 4 – western precinct – rectangular fields and clubhouse
  • Priority 5 – western precinct – carparking
  • Priority 6 – western precinct – internal pathways + landscaping
  • Priority 7 – western precinct – tennis courts
  • Priority 8 – western precinct – public amenities
  • Future Stage – Alley Park grandstand improvements
  • Future Stage – Aquatic Centre improvements
