Fisheries Bridge naming
Council is inviting the community to help name the new permanent road bridge being built over the Mulgrave River at Goldsborough, replacing the Fisheries Bridge washed away during Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023.
This is a chance to recognise the resilience and recovery of the Goldsborough community while celebrating Cairns’ 150-year anniversary in 2026. The bridge will carry a dual name with Traditional owners - the Dulabed and Malanbarra Yidinji people – putting forward the name Balngga-L, which means "crossing on a log over a creek or river" to reflect their cultural connection to Country. The dual name will honour the spirit, history, diversity and resilience of the community.
