Cairns Aquatic Facilities Strategy
Modernising our aquatic facilities to improve access and plan for future demand.
The draft Cairns Aquatic Facilities Strategy aimed to balance community needs, budget and time constraints, and the challenges of a growing and changing population. Community consultation closed on 30 April 2026 following more than four months of engagement.
Council officers are now reviewing all survey responses and submissions, with Councillors also to receive access to all feedback to help inform future discussions. Given the volume of feedback received, the review process and Council workshops will take time, with a proposed final strategy expected to be presented to Council later in 2026.
No decision has been made on the final strategy and aquatic facilities will continue operating under current arrangements in the meantime.
Council thanks everyone who contributed feedback and participated in the consultation process.
