Ongoing investment to upgrade water mains

Cairns Regional Council will invest $5 million in the replacement of aging water mains in 10 suburbs as part of its 2025/26 Water Main Refurbishment Program.

The program targets water mains that have deteriorated or recorded repeated service disruptions.

Mains identified for renewal have typically experienced more than three breaks within a two-year period, impacting water reliability for residents and businesses.

The program plays a critical role in maintaining the city’s essential infrastructure.

Water mains scheduled for replacement in the 2025/26 financial year include:

  • Woopen Creek Rd (Stage 1), Bartle Frere
  • Banning Ave, Brinsmead
  • Sydney St, Bayview Heights
  • Pioneer St, Manoora
  • Shale St and Basalt St, Brinsmead
  • Zamia St, Holloways Beach
  • Spence St (Aumuller St to Buchan St), Bungalow
  • Mulgrave Rd, Earlville
  • Kenny St, Portsmith
  • Derby St, Johnson St, Daisy St and Morgan St, Yorkeys Knob
