How much could you save on your dog’s registration?

Dog owners are reminded they have until 31 July 2026 to renew their dog registration for the 2026/27 rego period.

Registration fees vary depending on factors such as desexing, Level 3 obedience training and pensioner concessions, with owners able to save up to $110 by desexing their dog.

For example, registration for a desexed dog costs $52 compared with $162 for an entire dog, while desexed dogs with Level 3 obedience training pay $44 compared with $88 for entire dogs.

Pensioners with desexed dogs pay just $26, compared with $81 for entire dogs.

Registering your dog and keeping your details up to date is the quickest way to help Council reunite you with your pet if they become lost.

Registration fees also help fund Council's animal management services, including the Animal Care & Education Centre, lost pet reunions, animal rehoming, community safety patrols, education programs, and the investigation of dog attacks and barking complaints.

Under Queensland legislation, all dogs over 12 weeks of age must be registered.

Owners who fail to register their dogs can face a fine of $345.

To check your fee, renew your dog's registration, register a new dog or update your details, visit Cairns Regional Council’s website.

Dog owners who haven't received their renewal notice should contact Council on 1300 69 22 47.
