Cominos House in Manunda will continue to serve the community as a valued local facility, with Council approving a new 10-year trustee lease to the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC).

Following a competitive tender process, CAFNEC was identified as the preferred organisation to manage and operate the facility, demonstrating a strong commitment to maintaining the locally significant building, supporting community access and activities, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the site.

The new trustee lease will commence on 1 July 2026, with CAFNEC responsible for the management, maintenance and operation of Cominos House, including its community meeting spaces and office facilities.

The arrangement will support the ongoing use of Cominos House as a community hub while ensuring the facility remains accessible and available for community-focused activities into the future.
