Supporting the Cairns Museum and preserving local heritage
To strengthen this work, Council has endorsed a new three-year Resource and Performance Agreement from 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2030, providing funding of $557,000 (excl. GST) per year through a combination of cash and in-kind support.
The Cairns Museum attracts more than 20,000 visitors annually and delivers education programs, volunteer opportunities and community initiatives that connect residents and visitors with the region's rich history.

Over the past year, the organisation recorded growth in grants, donations, digital engagement and community participation, demonstrating its continued value and broad community reach.
Council is also investing $1.5 million in the renewal of the heritage-listed School of Arts building from 1 July 2027, helping preserve an important cultural asset for future generations.
Investing in future economic opportunities
A separate three-year agreement with the Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX), trading as Superyacht Australia, will provide funding of $10,000 per year.
The partnership aims to leverage the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to increase superyacht visitation to Cairns before, during and after the Games, delivering economic benefits for the region.
