Locals and visitors can look forward to more rides on the much-loved Reef Eye Ferris Wheel, with a new venue hire agreement securing its place on the Cairns Esplanade.
A 12-month extension with Westshell Pty Ltd has been approved to keep the attraction operating from February 2026.

Council will also seek Ministerial Exemption to explore the option of negotiating a longer-term tenure arrangement, which would be subject to further approvals.
The Reef Eye has become a well-loved attraction, drawing approximately 475,000 riders since June 2022 and contributing more than $557,000 in revenue to Council.
Its continued operation supports local jobs, enhances the Esplanade’s vibrancy and provides a family-friendly activity that strengthens the city’s visitor appeal.
Pursuing a potential longer-term agreement will allow Council to better assess future opportunities while maintaining community access to this iconic experience.
