Growing a greener and more resilient Cairns

$50,400 for community revegetation projects

Through the 2026-27 Revegetation of Natural Areas Grant Program, Council will provide $50,400 to support three community-led projects that will enhance some of the region's public spaces.

The program provides funding for on-ground revegetation projects to rehabilitate landscapes, strengthen ecosystems and support long-term environmental stewardship within the community.

Supporting one of Cairns' premier wetland habitats

Treeforce Association will receive $20,000 to continue planting native trees at Cattana Wetlands, improving ecosystem resilience and enhancing bird habitat within one of the region's most significant conservation and birdwatching areas.

More shade and habitat along the Northern Beaches Bike Path

At Trinity Park and Smithfield, Marlin Coast Men's Shed will receive $10,400 to plant native shade trees along the Northern Beaches Bike Path, creating more shade for residents, improving the visual appeal of the area and increasing wildlife habitat.

Restoring Bluewater Parklands

The Agile Project - Wildlife Rescue will receive $20,000 for the second stage of revegetation at Bluewater Parklands. The project will restore former construction zones, improve environmental outcomes and reduce long-term maintenance requirements.

Creating healthier community spaces for the future

Together, the projects support Council's Corporate Plan by protecting and enhancing Cairns' natural assets, increasing biodiversity and creating healthier, more sustainable community spaces for current and future generations.
