Reliable wastewater infrastructure is essential for public health, environmental protection and the continued delivery of services to the Cairns community.
Council is investing more than $8.9 million in critical wastewater network upgrades across Woree, Manunda and Bentley Park to renew ageing assets and reduce the risk of service disruptions and environmental incidents.
Council has awarded a contract to Koppen Construction Pty Ltd for the renewal and upgrade of three sewage pumping stations at Woree, Manunda and Bentley Park.
The works will address asset condition, safety, and operational issues, and therefore extend the life of vital infrastructure and improve network reliability for growing communities.
Council has also awarded a contract to JR Pipelines Pty Ltd to replace the ageing sewer rising main aerial crossing at Gordon Creek, Woree.
The existing sewer aerial crossing is approaching the end of its service life and requires replacement.
The renewal works will also address erosion of the embankment and exposed infrastructure at the crossing location resulting from flooding events, creating risks to service continuity and the environment.
Both projects will be delivered by local contractors using local subcontractors where possible, supporting jobs and economic activity across the region.
Together, these upgrades strengthen Cairns' wastewater network and help ensure reliable sewerage services for the community well into the future.
