Council backs key community partnerships

Council has endorsed a series of agreements that will strengthen support for sport, culture, heritage and environmental initiatives across the Cairns region.

Support has been approved for the North Queensland Sports Foundation to bring the 36th North Queensland Sport Star Awards to Cairns for the first time.

The awards will be held at the Tanks Arts Centre in October, celebrating sporting excellence across North Queensland while promoting women in sport, leadership and business.

Council has also endorsed a 12-month Resource and Performance Agreement with Cairns Art Gallery Precinct Ltd to support continued operation of the Gallery Precinct (Cairns Art Gallery, the Court House Gallery, and the Mulgrave Gallery), while long-term planning is finalised.

A 12-month Resource and Performance Agreement with The Historical Society Cairns North Queensland Inc was approved.

The agreement will support the continued operations of the Cairns Museum and the preservation of the region’s historical collections while future arrangements are considered.

Additionally, Council has also approved a new five-year Resource and Performance Agreement with the Friends of the Botanic Gardens, which supports the Botanic Gardens through events, fundraising and community activities.
