Now’s your chance to celebrate someone who inspires you!
Nominations opened today (1 October 2025) for the Cairns Regional Council Australia Day Awards, which shine a spotlight on individuals whose passion and dedication make our community stronger, kinder and more connected.
Awards will be presented across three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.
Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said the awards are about celebrating everyday people who make an extraordinary impact.
“Opportunities like these remind us to pause and recognise the people who matter most.
It’s not just about the awards, it’s about showing our gratitude and celebrating the friends, neighbours and mentors who shape our lives and our community every day.
From tireless volunteers and community leaders to young people making a big difference, these awards honour the people who go above and beyond for Cairns.
If you know someone who inspires you, now is the time to nominate them and share their story,” Cr Eden said.
Nominations close on 14 December, with winners announced at the Australia Day Awards ceremony on 26 January 2026.
Help us celebrate the people who make Cairns a vibrant, inclusive and connected community.
Nomination forms and further information are available on the Cairns Regional Council website: cairns.qld.gov.au/experience-cairns/events/annual-events/australia-day-awards.
