Everyday venues across Stratford will transform into live music stages on Saturday 5 July for the first-ever Live & Local: Stratford Sounds – a free one-day music trail celebrating local talent.
Presented by Cairns Regional Council, in partnership with the Live Music Office and APRA AMCOS, the event will feature a walkable trail of live performances in cafes, bars, barbershops, distilleries and even the local library.
A diverse line-up of local talent
Audiences can expect a vibrant mix of indie, acoustic, upbeat and original music from both well-known and up-and-coming artists, including Tessa Devine, Leanne Tennant, Katie Richards, Grace Jones, Cam Kettle, Foxy, and Vidur Sehgal, among others.
Running from 9.45am to 6.45pm, the day will culminate in a sunset performance by Tessa Devine at Narrow Tracks Distillery.
Boosting local creativity and community
Division 6 Councillor Kristy Vallely said the event is designed to bring music into the heart of the community.
“Live & Local is about putting music back into the places where people live and gather, not just on main stages, but in the small venues, cafes and corners that bring people together and give a boost to local business,” Cr Vallely said.
“How lucky are we to live in such a creative and artistic city that embraces ideas like this? I am really looking forward to getting out and amongst the performances and enjoying the day with the community.”
Music in unexpected places
Performer Tessa Devine said Stratford Sounds is a unique opportunity to bring music to unexpected places and connect with audiences in a more personal setting.
“I am really excited to be a part of this community music-filled event, showcasing so many local live acts… especially at a beautiful venue like Narrow Tracks,” she said.
“It brings people together and takes original live music into places you wouldn’t usually see it like cafes, barbers and even the library.
“I am honoured to be finishing the day and can’t wait to connect with everyone.”
