The Local Government Act gives Queensland councils the power to create Local Laws within their municipality. Local laws help protect public health, safety and amenity in the municipality. They are made in consultation with the community to deal with local issues and to meet local needs.

Cairns Regional Council has 15 local laws and 5 subordinate local laws. Council maintains a register of its local laws and subordinate local laws. Please see below a copy of each local law and subordinate local law as well as the purpose and effect of each.

You can also search for Council’s local laws and subordinate local laws on the Queensland Government’s online Local Laws Database.
