Cairns is a region like no other – the tropical capital of North Queensland, a connected, diverse and thriving city that values our people, environment and shared prosperity. Our new Corporate Plan 2025-2030 builds on Council’s core initiatives and services to chart a clear course to a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable future.

Importantly, this Plan is a shared agreement of the strategic direction and priorities over the next five financial years. It reflects our commitment to delivering for our community through strong governance and meaningful partnerships with our key stakeholders.

Our focus areas are guided by the Mayor and Councillors in partnership with our leadership team. They also incorporate insights from over 11,500 Cairns residents who participated in the 2024 Our Cairns Community and Youth surveys.

I am confident we have a positive way forward and the right people and experience to deliver for our region. With ongoing input from Councillors and the community we will focus on achieving:

  1. A robust economy that supports our diverse and growing businesses.
  2. The promotion, protection and enhancement of our natural environment now and for future generations.
  3. Implementing a place-based approach to creating liveable places that reflect our community.
  4. A nurtured community and culture that is vibrant, healthy and inclusive.
  5. Focused and informed decision making that delivers positive outcomes for our community.

These focus areas are supported by strategies that will inform Council’s annual operating plans and budgets through to 2030.

As we look forward with clearly defined values and purpose, Council is well positioned to shape a vibrant future that embraces our Cairns-ness with trust, responsibility and resilience.
