Customer Service represents all areas of Council as the first point of contact for all residents, ratepayers and visitors to Cairns. Customer Service Officers are required to have a broad knowledge base to respond to initial queries relating to all Council activities, payments and processes.
The Cairns Infrastructure & Assets Engagement (CIA-E) team provides a broad range of communication and engagement services to support the directorate. This includes developing communication strategies, managing engagement activities and consultations, coordinating events, delivering marketing and advertising campaigns, designing promotional materials, and addressing customer issues. As a public-facing team, CIA-E works across various projects that require strong communication skills, creative problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement. Work experience opportunities within our team provide hands-on exposure to these areas, allowing participants to develop skills in creative thinking, teamwork, processes, systems, communications, content creation, event planning, and problem-solving, contributing to positive outcomes for both internal and external customers.
The Strategic Communications & Engagement team is responsible for protecting and promoting Council’s reputation with key stakeholders. This includes advising communications strategies, public affairs, marketing, community engagement, along with issues, media and event management. The team partners with all areas of the organisation to support them to position services and initiatives positively with the public. Through the delivery of community and civic events, we provide opportunities for community cohesion and participation.
Library Services provides access to a diverse range of resources, programs, and services to support lifelong learning, literacy, and community engagement. The team manages library collections, assists customers in accessing information, delivers educational programs, and ensures a welcoming environment for all visitors. Participants gain practical experience in the daily operations of a library while developing skills applicable in various fields, from customer service to administration and research.
