Message from the Mayor
This Plan is Cairns Regional Council’s promise to focus on the things that really matter to our community. It’s grounded in what makes our people and region extraordinary, reflects our collective values, and provides a roadmap to the future we want to create for our city.
Our vision for Cairns is bold—as it should be. We are extremely fortunate to live in a place rich in natural beauty, cultural depth, and community spirit. We are already on our way to becoming Australia’s premier regional destination for lifestyle and leisure, and we have big plans to build on our strengths in innovation, the arts, sport, and enterprise.
The 2025–2030 Corporate Plan has been shaped by the voices of the Cairns community — from insights gained from the Our Cairns Survey, to the everyday feedback shared with our Councillors. The messages from the community are clear: you want a region that is liveable, inclusive, affordable, and well-prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
When I became Mayor, I was determined to lead with purpose and to keep people central to everything we do. That commitment to engagement also means being realistic about the challenges we face, while remaining focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for our community.
This Plan is evidence of Council’s shared commitment to our common goals.
I would like to sincerely thank my fellow Councillors for their dedication and leadership throughout the development of this Plan. I also extend my deep appreciation to Council’s executive team and staff, whose expertise, insight and hard work have been vital in helping shape a five-year Plan that is practical, forward-thinking and deeply connected to our community’s aspirations.
Every day, I’m inspired by the place we call home. From its lush rainforests and sparkling coastline to the opportunities in our economy and communities, Cairns is a city full of promise.
Together, and with this Plan as a guide, I believe we can realise that promise, ensuring we are a regional city with national significance for generations to come.
